Organize assessment materials and link the supporting artifacts to your responses. Make the implementation understandable without asking reviewers to search an entire audit report.

A different starting point
Class A recognizes an existing commercial assessment. Your next task is to turn that evidence into a clear, current FedRAMP package and address the federal requirements around it.
Read the Class A rulesThe assessment was completed within the past 12 months and covers the offering you want to take federal.
Your complete report, any applicable bridge or gap letter, audit engagement records, and next-report schedule.
Owners who can explain security decisions, address Class A requirements, and keep the evidence current.
From evidence to application
A focused preparation target for teams whose evidence and Marketplace prerequisites are ready. We confirm scope first; implementation gaps and missing records can extend the work.
Review your SOC 2 scope, report date, federal use case, and Marketplace listing status.
Organize your assessment materials, explain the Class A requirements, and identify what still needs work.
Assemble the CPO and SDR, check schema validity, and set up access to the supporting records.
Your team confirms the records and submits FedRAMP’s application once the Marketplace prerequisite is met.
This is the preparation timeline. FedRAMP reviews the application and decides certification on its own schedule. A Marketplace listing must be in place before you apply.

Before you make the move
Know what carries forward, what comes next, and who makes the final decision.
This path accepts SOC 2 Type II, with the assessment completed within the past 12 months. A Type I report alone does not qualify. We review the offering's scope and the available assessment materials before planning your Class A work.
Official guidanceA separate FedRAMP independent assessment is optional for Class A. Your existing SOC 2 assessment supplies the external assurance foundation. You still need to address the applicable Class A requirements, prepare the package, and go through FedRAMP's review.
Official guidanceThat is our preparation target for eligible teams with a current report, complete evidence, available decision-makers, and Marketplace prerequisites in place. We confirm the scope first. Missing evidence or implementation work can extend preparation. FedRAMP's review, certification decision, and agency authorization run on their own timelines.
They are separate milestones. A provider must be listed in the Marketplace before applying for certification. An Initial Implementation listing makes your offering and progress visible; it does not mean FedRAMP has issued a Class A Certification.
Official guidanceOn the FedRAMP 20x Program Certification path, you can pursue Class B or C directly through FedRAMP without an agency sponsor or a prior agency ATO. The higher class requires its own evidence and independent assessment. An agency still makes its own decision about authorizing and using your service.
Official guidancePlan for the next class as agency needs grow. FedRAMP's published guidance says that once a federal customer uses the service, the provider has 12 months to begin transitioning to Class B or higher. We can help you plan that work from the records you maintain in Boundera.
